Arpan and BEST Unite Against Child Sexual Abuse


During Child Safety Week, observed from November 14 to 20, 2023, Arpan and Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) have collaborated to launch a campaign aimed at preventing Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) on public transport. The joint effort focuses on raising awareness and fostering safer environments for children during their daily commutes. Addressing the alarming prevalence of Child Sexual Abuse, with 170 cases recorded daily according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in 2021, Arpan and BEST are taking proactive measures to protect Mumbai's youngest commuters. 


Informative posters on safe and unsafe touches have been strategically placed inside BEST buses to educate passengers and spread awareness about CSA prevention. The collaboration includes training sessions for BEST staff to increase awareness and equip them with the knowledge and skills to handle CSA cases sensitively and effectively. The campaign extends to informative posters at BEST depots, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding children during their commutes. Arpan and BEST aim to create a model city where every child can travel safely, setting a significant precedent for child safety on public transport.
